BMW X5 vs Mercedes GLE comparison for Scranton shoppers
BMW X5 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLE in Scranton, PA
If you see a luxury SUV in your future, you likely see the BMW X5 as that vehicle. The BMW X5 is smooth, plush, and brimming with amenities. But how does it compare to similar vehicles like the Mercedes-Benz GLE? The Mercedes-Benz GLE is stiff competition, with plenty of luxury and power to help you enjoy your Scranton shopping. See how these two models compare right here.
Performance
Performance is a must for both BMW and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. It doesn't matter whether you choose a sedan or an SUV; it will be powerful and ready to put a smile on your face. But which SUV offers more premium power?
The BMW X5: When comparing horsepower ratings directly, the BMW X5 wins out with the 523-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 in the M60i model. There are two other powertrains: a 483-horsepower PHEV model and a 375-horsepower turbocharged inline-six.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE: The Mercedes-Benz GLE falls behind with its top powertrain, the 504-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. Its other two powertrains also fall behind the BMW X5's other engines: the 362-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, and the 255-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder.

Technology
While most, if not all, luxury SUVs offer advanced technology, not all luxury SUV technology is equal. The BMW X5 simply offers more.
The BMW X5: The BMW X5 takes the cake with its curved touchscreen that covers two-thirds of the dashboard. This display combines a 12.3-inch gauge and a 14.9-inch center touchscreen. Safety-wise, expect standard features like Automated Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE: While the Mercedes-Benz GLE also offers a display that covers most of the dashboard, it combines two 12.3-inch displays, offering less screen than the BMW X5. Similarly, expect several standard safety technologies, such as Automated Emergency Braking and Blind-Spot Monitoring.
Towing
While the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE are both plush, luxury SUVs, they still offer some good capabilities, specifically great towing. This might be the only instance where the Mercedes-Benz GLE gets one over the BMW X5.
The BMW X5: The BMW X5 can tow up to 7,200 pounds, which is one of the highest ratings for any SUV. With that much capability, you can easily tow a camper or boat on a weekend trip with the kids.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE: The Mercedes-Benz GLE adds 500 pounds onto the BMW X5's rating for up to a maximum of 7,700 pounds. That rating is quite impressive for any SUV, and a feather in the Mercedes-Benz GLE's cap.

Interior
Expect both premium appointments and plenty of room in both the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. But keep in mind that the BMW X5 offers more luxury features.
The BMW X5: The BMW X5 pampers occupants with many high-quality materials and features, like the power-adjustable front seats with memory, a power-adjustable steering column, customizable ambient lighting, acoustic glass, and massaging seats, to name a few amenities.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE: The Mercedes-Benz GLE is also quite luxurious, but it falls short of the BMW X5. Regardless, find genuine leather upholstery, wood or brushed aluminum trim, and the new Air Balance cabin-fragrance system.
